Scripture: Philippians 2:14-16
Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.
Insights: After we have experienced God working IN us we are able to let Him work OUT of us as well. This outward work falls into the realm of service. Paul warns us to not allow that external work to be full of grumbling, disputing, or even a running in vain. Rather, Paul admonishes us to work with people in a manner that is blameless, innocent, above reproach and holding fast to the word of life. I would not presume to tell you living this kind of external life is easy. In fact, I would tell you it is impossible unless it is God working IN you to enable Him to work OUT of you. These verses today tell us why God does such a work out of us in this world. It is so that we may shine as lights in this world. This world is crooked and perverse, but God loves them. God’s love is so great that He desires for all to come into a saving relationship with His Son, Jesus. The method God has chosen to share this truth with a lost world is us shining as lights before them. Serving them in all of these positive attributes previously listed. Beloved, be careful how you serve the Lord. Let your service be light in the midst of darkness.
Questions:
1. In what ways is the Lord leading you to work out of you in the world?
2. Are you serving with the right attitude?
Prayer: Father, forgive me when I do work for You with a grumbling, disputing and vain attitude. Let my work for You be blameless, innocent, above reproach and holding fast to the world of life. Amen.
