Scripture: 2
Samuel 16:8
"The
LORD has returned upon you all the bloodshed of the house of Saul, in whose
place you have reigned; and the LORD has given the kingdom into the hand of
your son Absalom. And behold, you are taken in your own evil, for you
are a man of bloodshed!"
Insights: Today’s
verse continues the accusations of Shimei.
Yesterday we learned that part of Shimei’s stone throwing was to call
David a worthless fellow. Today,
however, we see that he is either mistaken or an outright liar. In today’s verse he is stating the David is
the one who took Saul’s life. Now he is
a relative of Saul and he may have been informed that David was the murderer of
Saul through another relative. That kind
of thinking is giving Shimei the benefit of the doubt; but at the other end of
the spectrum, Shimei is an outright liar.
In other words, he knows David did not kill Saul and usurp his throne,
but accuses David of this horrific event any way. Here is the point, Beloved: the same thing
happens to us today from stone throwers.
People either do not know the entire situation or they are just flat out
liars and they chunk verbal stones at us.
These stones, as we learned yesterday, are painful. There is, however, a sense of endurance
through these verbal assaults when we know the truth of the situation. So, Beloved, rest in the reality that the
Lord God knows the truth of every situation.
He knows exactly what has transpired and He also knows if the stone
thrower is a bold face liar or just an individual who is mistaken about the
facts. We can rest in Jesus’ advocacy of
our case. Run to Him, Beloved, when you
are wrongly accused with lies.
Questions:
- Have
you been lied about lately?
- How
did you feel when these stones hit you?
Prayer: Father, it
really hurts when stone throwers speak lies about me. Help me to respond in the same kind of love
and grace that Jesus did with His stone throwers. You are the only One who can help me bear up
under their false accusations. Amen.
